I have some strong opinions about cleaning and writing, and I have SCIENCE to back them up!!!
Ahh, nothing plagues me like the myth that to be creative, we have to keep our environment akin to a pig sty. I have observed that housekeeping is a point of contention amongst writers. There is an accepted hypothesis that a messy environment breeds creativity. I don’t buy it.
But really, why should we have to clean where there are books to be written?
Valid argument, I know.
But I propose this: a clean house means… more writing time???

This thorn in my side study came out in 2013. It claims that a messy environment leads to greater levels of creativity. Thankfully, a solid team of scientists have debunked this study.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am anything but a neat freak. There is a difference, though, between, mess and problematic clutter. As a professional housekeeper, let me tell you I have seen some things.
