What Do Dreams Mean To You + Your Writing?
The concept of “Dreams” carries a double meaning: one which we have (arguably) no control over, and another which we formulate in pursuit of our biggest goals.
Recently, I have been having the most incredible, crazy dreams. This is due to some life circumstances, and after many years of hardly dreaming, I’m enjoying the nightly adventures to the fullest.
Where before I would remember maybe 3–5 fuzzy dreams per month, I am now having several deeply complex, plot-based, and sometimes terrifying dreams every single night.
It has always shaken me just how little we as humans know about the ‘dreaming’ mechanism of our brains, especially when it is such a universal occurence.
Apart from the adventures we take during sleep, there are the dreams we chase, the ones which we base our identity on — career goals, life goals, that one thing we want to accomplish that defines us to ourselves and others.
We try to achieve our dreams through hard work, persistence, and sometimes grinding ourselves to the bone.
I listened to this episode of the podcast “This Is Actually Happening” and it resonated deeply within me for a number of reasons. It asks the question: What would you do if your dream dies?
