A light conversation about how we use writing to escape, vent, process, and deal with life.

As someone reconnecting with their spiritual roots, I’ve been dealing with one small, yet significant word lately: WHY?

The biggest of these why’s has been perhaps the most painful: why is my life’s calling causing me such a significant amount of pain? What is it that my body (and heck, the universe) trying to tell me? Every time I sit down to write, my shoulders and neck seize up, which usually results in an instant or delayed migraine headache.

The basic definition of dissociation is as follows:

“The disconnection or separation of something from something else or the state of being disconnected.”

The psychiatric definition of dissociating is a little bit more involved and exists on a wide spectrum:

“Separation of some aspects of mental functioning from conscious awareness.”

Of course, this is the barest definition and I highly recommend a bit of research if you want to learn more, as there are many different types of psychological dissociation.

I talked to my massage therapist (who also happens to be my spiritual mentor, equine counselor, and a great friend) about this…
